What Is ThetaHealing — And Why It Works for Baby Sleep

What ThetaHealing Actually Is
I know what you might be thinking. ThetaHealing? That sounds like something for people who burn incense and believe in crystals.
Maybe you've tried every evidence-based sleep method and you're at a point of desperation. Maybe someone mentioned this to you and you're reading with one eyebrow raised.
That's fair. I'd rather you come in skeptical than come in with unrealistic expectations.
ThetaHealing is a modality that works at the level of the subconscious mind — specifically, the theta brainwave state, which is the state we're in during deep meditation, hypnagogic sleep (the edge of falling asleep), and early childhood.
In the theta state, the mind is highly receptive. This is where beliefs are formed — and where they can be changed.
The method was developed by Vianna Stibal and has been practiced worldwide for over 25 years. I am a certified ThetaHealing instructor — meaning I not only practice it but teach it to other practitioners.
In a session, we identify specific beliefs or emotional patterns that are operating at the subconscious level — often outside of conscious awareness — and release them.
This is different from talk therapy, where we analyze and understand patterns intellectually. In ThetaHealing, we work at the level where the patterns actually live: in the body, in the nervous system, in the subconscious.
Why Subconscious Beliefs Affect Baby Sleep
Here's the crucial link that most people miss:
Babies don't sleep in a vacuum. They sleep in an emotional environment — and the most important element of that environment is the mother's nervous system.
Through a process called co-regulation (well-documented in developmental psychology), an infant's nervous system synchronizes with the primary caregiver's. When the mother's body signals safety, the baby's body settles. When the mother's body signals alert, the baby's body mobilizes.
This is why sleep training so often fails: it focuses on the baby's behaviors while ignoring the emotional environment the baby is sleeping in.
When a mother carries a subconscious belief — something like "the night isn't safe" or "I have to stay alert" or "something will go wrong if I relax" — her body broadcasts that belief, even when she's trying her best to appear calm.
The baby receives it. And responds accordingly.
By identifying and releasing the mother's root beliefs about night and sleep, we change the emotional environment — and the baby's sleep changes with it.
What a Session Actually Looks Like
Sessions are conducted via Zoom, so you can be at home — which is actually ideal, as you're in the same environment as your baby.
We begin by talking. I want to understand what's happening: when the sleep difficulties started, what patterns you've noticed, what you feel in your body at night.
Then we start looking for the root. I ask questions — not to analyze, but to trace the feeling back to its origin. Often, within a few questions, we reach something that feels significant: a memory, a belief, an inherited pattern.
From there, we work. Using ThetaHealing technique, I facilitate the release of the belief at the subconscious level. You don't have to do anything except be present.
Many clients describe a physical sensation of something releasing. Others feel a quieting. Some feel nothing in the moment, but notice changes in the days that follow.
Sessions are typically 60 minutes. Depending on the depth of the issue, one session is sometimes enough. More complex or layered patterns may require a short series.
There's no homework. No techniques to remember. No new bedtime routines to implement.
What I Can and Cannot Promise
I want to be honest with you, because I think you've had enough promises that didn't pan out.
I cannot promise that one session will solve everything. Every mother and every situation is different.
What I can tell you is what I've seen: mothers whose babies were waking hourly, for months, and whose sleep shifted dramatically within days of our work together.
I can tell you that in most cases, something shifts — in the mother first, and then in the baby.
I can tell you that even when the baby's sleep takes time, the mother almost always reports feeling different at night. Calmer. More able to rest in the spaces between wakings.
And I can tell you that the approach — working with the mother's emotional and energetic state rather than trying to train the baby — is consistent with what we know from developmental science about how babies actually work.
This isn't magic. It's a different door into the same house.
Who This Is For
This work is for you if:
- You've tried sleep training and it hasn't worked — or it worked briefly and then stopped.
- You feel like the problem is somehow connected to you, but you don't know how.
- You've noticed that your baby sleeps differently when someone else is present.
- You carry tension at night that feels out of proportion to your current circumstances.
- You're open to looking inward, not just at the baby.
This is not for you if you're looking for a quick fix that requires nothing of you. This work asks you to be honest — with yourself, and with me.
But if you're willing to look at the root, not just the surface — I'd love to meet you there.
